GAHTAH and Perry Local Schools

WHO IS GAHTAH?
Give A Hand. Take A Hand. (GAHTAH) is a student led, staff supported group. GAHTAH's sole purpose is to raise awareness about suicide prevention and mental illness througheducating students and staff surrounding warning signs/ symptoms.

WHAT DOES GAHTAH DO?
Students involved in GAHTAH educate one another through presentations about the impact that life circumstances and depression have on suicidal thinking. This includes information about the symptoms of depression, warning signs regarding suicidal thoughts, and about what to/not to say to a friend who may be suicidal. Resources are also provided during the presentation.  Interested in participating as a GAHTAH leader?  Applications available through your Guidance Counselors.

HOW CAN I HELP A FRIEND WHO IS DEPRESSED AND/OR MIGHT BE SUICIDAL?
Being a friend means that you support the person you care about. Depression and suicide may be tough to talk about; however talking about it can save lives. If someone you know is thinking or talking about suicide, take it seriously. First, acknowledge the person’s feelings and let them know that you are concerned about him/her. Second, let that person know how much you care about him or her. Finally, tell a trusted adult (parent, teacher, guidance counselor, principal, school social worker) immediately.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE OVERVIEW:
Lake County is rich with resources for various needs (e.g., housing, utilities, job training, agency, private therapeutic services, etc.). A community resource guide offers support in collaborating with community agencies/services to help link students and their families to these much needed resources. Please call the Office of Student Services and College and Career Readiness if assistance is needed (440) 259-9200.
